Dear Delegates,

It is an honor and a pleasure to welcome you to the Economic and Social Council and Regional Bodies of WorldMUN 2012!

In the MUN family, EcoSoc is the middle child, both in terms of size (25-50 delegates, compared to hundreds in GA and under 20 in the SA) and in terms of personality.  EcoSoc is more flexible than the massive GA committees and more relaxed than the often frantic SA committees--in short, the EcoSoc mentality is laidback but intense.  EcoSoc-ers know how to have a good time, both in committee and out!  I'm looking forward to meeting all of you, and hope that you're just as excited for WorldMUN 2012.

Historically, the EcoSoc organ of the United Nations was founded to coordinate the actions of the UN Special Agencies.  Though in the MUN world, EcoSoc has evolved far beyond this original role, this year WMUN EcoSoc will be getting in touch with its roots by adapting the signature element of the SA: crises.  Though we will not be in constant crisis, delegates may be asked to deal with dynamic elements in committee. As delegates of EcoSoc, you will be discussing a wide variety of topics--from the Hezbollah-Latin American connection to the development of small island developing nations to ethnic clashes in the Balkans--and at the same time dealing with realities on the ground, just as real EcoSoc delegates must.

I'm eager to see what the diverse delegates of WorldMUN Vancouver bring to the table--I'm sure that this year will be the most innovative, energetic, and productive yet!  Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, doubts, or concerns.

See you in Vancouver!
Best,
Anna Trowbridge
