Hello WorldMUNers!
Nearly four years ago, I joined an amazing organization called WorldMUN and that decision has largely shaped my college experience and world-view. This year I am extremely excited, as the Secretary-General of the twenty-first conference, to welcome you to WorldMUN 2012 in beautiful Vancouver, Canada. I cannot convey enough how delighted I am to host WorldMUN, for the first time ever, in North America, where I have spent most of my life.
For those of you who are new to WorldMUN, the conference is more than just your average Model UN conference. Instead it is a bond that brings together young, brilliant minds from across 60+ nations to a single forum where they debate, collaborate, and party for what becomes the most memorable week of the year. And for those of you who are not new to WorldMUN, well, you already know all this and I look forward to reuniting with you in March.
As always, if you need any help while registering for WorldMUN, please reach out to us. I look forward to getting to know all of you in these months ahead of us, and though there is much to do, WorldMUN is ultimately about what all of the people involved make of it, so let us make this year’s WorldMUN the best one yet!
Director-General: Samir Patel
Advisors, Delegates, and Friends,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 21st Session of World Model United Nations 2011! My name is Samir Patel and I am the Director-General for the Conference. It will be the culmination of a long, tiring, and busy period of work, but one which will be worth it as we really enjoy seeing so many individuals from a multitude of backgrounds take part in what truly embodies a global simulation of MUN. As Director-General I will be responsible for overseeing the budgets and logistics for the Conference, in addition to assisting with Administrative and Financial matters (especially emails). Doubtless you will see me running around Conference making sure everything is running smoothly, but please feel free to stop me and say hello. Meeting the delegates is much more fun than fixing the air-conditioning!
At Harvard, I am a senior mechanical engineer with a strong interest in international relations and the impact of technology. When I am not in the laboratory working on robotic insect wings, I enjoy reading about everything from new global energy initiatives to royal weddings. I am a huge soccer enthusiast (Glory Glory Man United)—- I love to talk about it, play it, what have you! Additionally, I enjoy listening to heavy metal/instrumental/hip-hop, working out, cooking fusion/exotic foods, and traveling to faraway places! Once again, welcome to WorldMUN—-I truly cannot wait to meet you!
Under-Secretary General of the General Assembly: Kevin Liu Huang
My name is Kevin Liu Huang, and I have the distinct honor of serving as the Under-Secretary-General of General Assemblies for WorldMUN 2012 in Vancouver, Canada! I feel really privileged by the opportunity to work with this prestigious conference. I have been involved as both a delegate and staffer for many conferences of varying size since I was 13 years old, and I am happy to add WorldMUN 2012 to my MUN background!
About me, I’m a rising junior who is concentrating in Government and Statistics with a special interest in national security and nuclear politics. I hail from Flemington, a small suburban town in New Jersey. In addition to being involved with international relations on campus, I am also a competitive ballroom and Latin dancer, a hobby of mine that I have only begun relatively recently. Traveling, too, is a big winner on my hobby list, and while abroad, I am an avid photographer and writer.
I am excited to meet you all, and I am looking forward to an excellent conference in March!
Under-Secretary-General of the Economic and Social Council, Regional Bodies: Anna Trowbridge
Hey WorldMUNers,
My name is Anna Trowbridge, and I’m a rising senior at Harvard, studying Government and Arabic. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to spend my last spring break at college serving as Under-Secretary General for the ECOSOCs at WorldMUN 2012. This is only my second year attending WorldMUN (I chaired the Organization of the Islamic Conference in 2011), but I wish that I had another four years to dedicate to it! I’ve been participating in MUN since I was fourteen, but I’ve never experienced anything close to the community and spirit that is WorldMUN.
I am particularly excited because as WorldMUN turns 21, I’ll be turning 22, and there is nowhere I’d rather be for my birthday than with such a wonderful group of people. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at my Harvard email (atrowbr@fas.harvard.edu)!
Under-Secretary-General of the Specialized Agencies: Aparajita Tripathi
Dear delegates and faculty advisors,
Welcome to WorldMUN 2012! My name is Aparajita Tripathi, and I am honoured to be serving as this year’s Under-Secretary-General of the most innovative organ at conference, the Specialized Agencies. I am a junior at Harvard, pursuing interdisciplinary studies in political and social theory, government, and history. I cherish many fond memories of WorldMUN Singapore, but this upcoming conference is particularly special to me, as it is a bit of a homecoming. A native of Toronto, I am very excited to venture for the first time to Canada’s west coast and explore all that beautiful Vancouver has to offer. However, since leaving Canada, I have called a small suburb of New York home. Outside of Model UN, I enjoy reading and following hockey and tennis. If you are someone who thrives in crisis situations and consistently thinks outside the box, then the Specialized Agencies eagerly await you! I hope to be in touch with you even before we all descend upon Vancouver, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email.
Under-Secretary-General Operations: Richard Ebright
Hi everyone!
I am a rising sophomore at Harvard studying chemistry. However, I am very interested in international relations, and especially Model United Nations, which promotes collaboration and communication (skills that I usually don’t use while mixing my chemicals). I chaired the Third Party Actors (NGO/Press Corps/Goodwill Ambassadors) committee at WorldMUN 2011, and I am excited to be playing an even more active role at WorldMUN 2012!
I was born and raised in North Brunswick, New Jersey. At Harvard, in addition to MUN, I am actively involved in cancer research and breakdance, and I enjoy playing tennis and Ultimate frisbee in rare moments of free time. I’ll be in Boston all summer, so if you happen to swing by, let me know!
Again, I’ll try to keep the Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr regularly updated, and don’t hesitate to shoot me an email (finance@worldmun.org) if you have any questions, or just want to chat!
Under-Secretary-General Administration: Samuel Leiter
Hello!
My name is Samuel Leiter and I am the Under-Secretary General of Administration for Harvard WorldMUN 2012. I am currently a sophomore at Harvard College studying government and psychology, and joined Model UN as a freshman in high school. I competed on the high school circuit for four years, and many of my best friends were once fellow delegates. At university, I decided to keep the fire burning by getting involved with the Harvard Program for International Relations and International Relations Council. Although Vancouver will be my first WorldMUN experience, it will also be my (lucky?) tenth conference, and I could not be more excited to meet you all in March!
If you have any questions about registration please email me at admin@worldmun.org.
Under-Secretary-General Business: Scott Yu
Greetings and welcome WorldMUN 2012!
My name is Scott Yu, and it is my pleasure to serve as the Under-Secretary-General of Business for this year’s conference in beautiful, breathtaking Vancouver. For me, this conference is particularly meaningful; as I was never involved in MUN in high school, serving on the Secretariat for such a world-class conference has been and will be a truly humbling and exciting experience. The incredible opportunity to meet and connect with so many students from all around the world should not be understated, and I look forward to getting to know you!
I am a rising sophomore at Harvard from Rockville, Maryland, majoring in indecision and minoring in economics. Unfortunately, I have no idea what I want to do when I graduate. I love music, and I enjoy composing and messing around on the piano a lot in my free time. Other than that, I am always down for a pick-up basketball game, a good book, or just a chill afternoon with friends.
I’d love to get to know all of you guys, so feel free to email me at business@worldmun.org
