LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
To the Members of the WorldMUN Community,
On behalf of the organizing committee, it is my great pleasure to announce that the twenty-seventh session of Harvard World Model United Nations will be held in Panama City, Panama, from the 12th to the 16th of March 2018.
It is here in Panama that ships from around the world traverse through the Canal, a testament to the virtue of trade, the marvel of modern engineering, and the potential that nations can fulfill when given control of their own resources.
It is here—in one of the committee rooms that will host our conference—that Barack Obama and Raul Castro met for the first time, highlighting the role that diplomacy can play even between countries with strong disagreements.
And it is here that you will find a city and a country that is eager to welcome 2000 delegates from over 100 countries to engage in debate and to forge strong relationships that make WorldMUN so special.
Known as “bridge of the world, heart of the universe,” Panama does not only represent the values of diversity, internationalism, and multiculturalism that WorldMUN emphasizes--it promises to provide the resources, venues, and experiences that will take this year’s conference to new heights.
Delegates will get the chance to simulate the work of diplomats at the same conference center that hosted the Summit of the Americas and other prestigious international events; they will get to unwind at social events hosted at multiple locations designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites; and they will get to experience a city WorldMUN has never previously been to and a region that the conference has not ventured to in a decade.
I could not be more excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing you in Panama City in 2018!
