Discounted Madrid Transportation Pass
(highly recommended for all delegates)
WorldMUN has partnered with the public transportation office of Madrid to offer a unique opportunity for delegates of this year’s conference: purchasing a weekly transportation card with a special discount in advance of conference, instead of having to buy it at your arrival to Madrid. Madrid has one of the best public transport systems in the world, with a fleet of 2000+ buses and 300+ metro stations.
What does the pass include? This card covers unlimited use of public transport (bus, metro and train) within the A zone in Madrid for 7 days after its first use.
How much does it cost? For WorldMUN participants who book it in advanced, it will cost $30 USD including the airport fee (normally $40.60); this is a 26% discount.
Why is this card recommended by the Secretariat and Host Team? Firstly, by buying in advance you will be saving $10.60 on the weekly card. If you want to buy individual metro tickets, first you will need to purchase the physical transportation card for €2.50; then, for each trip, you will pay €1.50 for a one-way ticket. This is not particularly economical given the two-way trips every day to the conference venue as well as the extra fee to go to and from the airport (not including extra rides to social event venues and other places in Madrid).
How and by when must I order the pass? To get the special WorldMUN discount, you must purchase the transportation pass by February 17, one month in advance of conference. Passes can be reserved and paid for directly on MyMUN.
If I book it in advance, where can I pick up my transportation card? You can get your transportation cards at the stands that the Host Team will set up at Madrid-Barajas Airport Terminals 1 and 4 on Sunday, March 17 (this will save you the cost of transport from the airport). You can also get them during registration if you arrive on Monday.
How do I avoid getting lost? Metro Madrid has its own free app called Metro Madrid. This app works for both metro and bus and shows you the fastest combinations of metro lines to get to your destination. Moreover, using geolocation, you can find the closest bus stop and the estimated waiting time for the bus to come.
